It's completely unclear where such system requirements come from, given such poor visuals. Moreover, the spirit of the original Carmageddon has unfortunately not been preserved. Despite containing all the components of the original, plus a roguelike event graph on top, the game feels rather dull. The developers have overemphasized the concept of racing, although in the original game, racing was actually quite lackluster; much more fun was provided by the driver's commentary, his screams, collisions with everything, the car spinning out of control at high speeds, and bonuses of varying degrees of madness. Thanks to "innovations" like currency and purchasable upgrades, the game feels more like a refined version of Deathtrack (1989), in third-person and with zombies—that is, combat racing, not some silly zombie-killing-and-fun-like-it-all-the-time-to-continue-the-party kind of thing. The collisions and destruction of cars, in turn, create the feel of a game like Burnout Paradise. So Deathtrack fans, step up, Carmageddon fans should download the Splat Pack, and everyone else should hit the track, but not for what you might think: zombie-killing.
